INTRODUCTION
The inaugural 4H & FFA Program occurred in the Spring of 2008. The interest in and the reception of the event were evident in both the 4H and the FFA communities. Therefore, the Corps of Cadets of Texas A&M University is pleased to announce that a 4H & FFA Program will be held each fall and spring.
WHAT IS THE 4H & FFA PROGRAM?
It is a recruiting program for the Corps of Cadets of Texas A&M University. Traditionally, the Corps has many members who have been (or are) active in either 4H or FFA. The Program recognizes that the same traits that motivate a youngster to join 4H & FFA also encourage them, as collegians, to join the Corps. The Program focuses on seniors and select juniors in high school who have been active in either 4H or FFA.
WHEN DOES IT TAKE PLACE?
The Spring ’09 event will be held March 27 – 28, 2009 at Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas. The program is scheduled to include the Texas A&M vs Kansas baseball game.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
All attending students must be either a junior or senior in high school. As mentioned in the previous section, all participants must be, or have been, active in either 4H or FFA. Seniors must have a completed application on file in the Texas A&M Office of Admissions NLT the January 15, 2009 cutoff in order to attend the 4H&FFA Program.
Juniors must meet either one of the criteria below:
- Be in the top ¼ of their class, and have either a 1050 SAT score or a105 PSAT score (combination of math/critical reading sections only) or
- Be in the top ½ of their class, and have either a 1150 SAT score or a 115 PSAT score (combination of math/critical reading sections only)
Four ways seniors can meet attendance requirements (must meet any one of the four):
- Be in the Top 10% of their class
- Be considered an 'Academic Admit'
-- Top quarter of class and either a minimum 1300 SAT (at least 600 on both critical reading and math components) or 30 ACT (minimum 27 in ACT English and ACT Math) - Top quarter of class and either a minimum 1050 SAT (combination of math/critical reading sections only) or 23 ACT
- Top half of class and either a minimum 1150 SAT (combination of math/critical reading sections only) or 25 ACT
These are program minimums. These scores do not guarantee admission to TAMU. Space is limited. Those wishing to participate in the program should apply early.
NOTE: If you do not meet the minimum requirements for attendance, seniors should take a look at the Galveston option.
Should seniors be interested in the Galveston Option, they may still go to the registration page and register for the program.
Again, seniors must have a complete application in to the Texas A&M University Office of Admissions by the 15 January 2009 deadline in order to attend the 4H&FFA program.
WHY ATTEND?
The Program will provide 4H & FFA students with a unique opportunity to see Texas A&M and to become familiar with the Aggie Corps of Cadets while in the company of their fellow 4H & FFA participants. Attendees will be housed in the Corps dorms.
It is an official campus visit sponsored by the Office of the Commandant of the Corps. Thus, it is an excused absence in most school districts.
Attendees will be counseled on the admission process and will receive valuable information regarding loans, scholarships and ROTC Programs. Attendees will be eligible for Corps Scholarships. Corps scholarships do not require military service, and may be used in conjunction with other scholarships.
WHAT IS THE COST?
$20 per attendee (non-refundable). After registering on-line, a confirmation packet will be mailed to the student. Certain forms and the non-refundable $20 fee will have to be returned to the Corps Center. The participant’s registration is not reserved until the forms and the payment are received. Again, the number of attendees is limited. Prompt return of the forms is encouraged--forms must be returned no later than March 20th, 2009 to be considered for the program.
When making travel arrangements, if traveling by bus or plane, please make your arrival/departure destination Bryan, Texas (Bus) or College Station, Texas (air). Texas A&M will provide transportation to and from ONLY the Bryan Bus Station or the College Station airport (Easterwood Field). If you are traveling by bus or air, please make that known as early as possible so we can be sure to plan for your arrival and departure.
MAY PARENTS ATTEND?
Yes, parents are encouraged to attend. Near the time of the event, a schedule will be posted on the Corps website. Sessions that parents may attend will be identified. Parents generally enjoy the Recognition Banquet. A special parent’s session will be conducted. While the students will be housed with the Corps, parents will have to provide their own accommodations..
WHERE SHOULD PARENTS STAY?

OUT OF STATE STUDENTS
All qualified students attending the 4H&FFA Program will be considered for a Corps Scholarship. Corps Scholarships do not require military service. They may be used in conjunction with other scholarships, e.g. University, home town, Kiwanis etc. If a Corps Scholarship is awarded to a student who is not a resident of Texas, the recipient may qualify for in-state tuition. This is a tuition reduction of approximately $30,000 over four years.
Out of state students flying into Easterwood Airport, College Station, Texas, should let the Corps Center (1-800-TAMUAGS) know of their arrival time. Shuttle service will be provided between Easterwood and the Corps Center.
