Keepers of the Spirit

The Corps of Cadets are often called the “Keepers of the Spirit.” Many of Texas A&M’s most cherished traditions, including the University's Midnight Yell Practice, Aggie Muster and Silver Taps, grew out of the Corps.
Ross Volunteers
Today, the Ross Volunteers give a 21-gun salute at Silver Taps and Muster and two cadet buglers play Silver Taps from the dome of the Academic Building.
Parsons Mounted Calvary
Parsons Mounted Calvary is responsible for firing the cannon each time the Texas Aggie football team scores a touchdown.
Other Traditions
Cadets raise the flags at Academic and Administration buildings on campus each morning and retire the colors in the evening. On the day of a Silver Taps or Muster, the flag is brought to half-staff to honor the Aggie who has passed away.
