Call to Quarters and Personal CQ (PCQ)
Known as CQ, Call to Quarters is currently scheduled from 7:00 - 10:00, Sunday through Thursday and is required for all freshman and sophomore cadets. During this monitored study time, the dorm conditions are kept conducive to studying. Because this time is set aside in the daily schedule, cadets can plan on getting a good portion of their studying done during this period. During this time, cadets are also encouraged to utilize the library and study lounges, to take advantage of supplemental instruction and review sessions, and to seek private tutoring assistance as needed.
Although time is set aside for studying each evening, three hours of studying each day is usually not enough to ensure academic success. Cadets are strongly encouraged to utilized their free time for extra studying and academic preparation. Most units in the Corps require underclassman to add at least 5 hours a week of study time during the day, in addition to their normal evening CQ. This results in a minimum of 20 required study hours per week. These additional 5 hours are called Personal Call to Quarters (PCQ). These 5 hours are scheduled by the cadet between the hours of 8a.m. and 4p.m. when the cadets have free time between classes to study and to take care of personal business.
