Tips for Succeeding in College
While these suggestions are not meant to be all-encompassing, they do serve as some helpful guidelines for succeeding in college.
- Attend ALL classes.
- Sit in the center of the first three rows of the classroom - so you can see and hear better and the professor will recognize you.
- Introduce yourself to the professor and meet with them as often as possible during their office hours.
- Attend all review and supplemental instruction sessions.
- Read assignments BEFORE you go to class - you will have a better understanding of the lecture material.
- Stay awake and take good notes during class.
- Review your textbooks and notes after each class and fill in any missing information.
- Review your notes frequently.
- Seek tutoring and additional help before you need them.
- Utilize time available on weekends for studying.
- Manage your time effectively - use a day planner to help achieve this goal.
- Treat school like a full time job - focus on academics 8 - 4 every day.
- Get at least 7 hours of sleep each night.
- Eat 3 well-balanced meals each day.
- See the department advisor in your major on a regular basis.
