Cadet Blake Pellerin has Aggie roots, but was not always sure about joining the Corps of Cadets.. "I had not planned on joining the Corps when I graduated high school because I wanted to play rugby. However, I came up to College Station and had a meeting with the Commandant and several upperclassmen, who assured me that I would be able to maintain a life of extracurricular activities and still be a contributor to my Corps outfit," shared Blake.
Blake is a political science major from Houston, Texas out of outfit E-1. He is not your average freshman. He has completed his year as a fish in the Corps, done well academically, all the while, being a full contributing member of the Texas A&M Men's Rugby Team. But.it doesn't stop there! Blake was selected in February of this year to be a player on the USA Under-19 Men's Rugby Team, and soon after, was named to the Men's Under-19 World Cup Rugby Team!
"Blake Pellerin exemplifies everything a coach would want in a player. Quiet and unassuming, his actions on the field and during practice make all the statements that are needed. He has a high work rate, is always around the ball, and displays solid skills in all aspects of the game. He has represented the state of Texas and the USA in representative rugby and is a credit to the university and the rugby club," remarked Craig Coates, Texas A&M Men's Rugby Team Head Coach.
Blake's success in the Corps at A&M has not come without its challenges, but with effective time management skills, Blake has been able to balance being both in the Corps and as a Rugby player.
Blake is looking forward to his remaining three years in the Corps and future opportunities in rugby. He will continue to excel. "Joining the Corps was a great decision. I am only a freshman now, but I plan to hold leadership positions within my outfit and the Corps in general, as well as the opportunity to hold a leadership position on the rugby team," shared Blake.
You can be sure we'll all be seeing more of Blake in the future!
