Chris Ragan joined the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M University in the fall of 2003.
One year later, at the beginning of his sophomore year, in November of 2004,
Chris was diagnosed with Stage II Hodgkin's Lymphoma cancer. After his diagnosis,
Chris made the decision to take the spring semester off to return home to undergo his
chemotherapy and radiation treatments. During this time, Chris took up running as a
means of building up his mental and physical strength. Chris didn't run just a few miles
at a time.amazingly, he was running marathons!
Chris completed his cancer treatment and rejoined the Corps of Cadets at
Texas A&M during the 2005 fall semester. Chris said it was the skills
and values he learned in the Corps, combined with the support of his
family and Corps buddies that helped him overcome this incredible ordeal.
"Being in the Corps, you grow up, gain perspective and learn how to set you priorities.
You focus on what it takes to overcome," Chris stated.
Chris is now training for a marathon to benefit the Leukemia Lymphoma Society in January of 2006. You can visit Chris’s website at www.active.com\donate\vtnt\crgn84 to track Chris’s progress!
