You will never know your true limits until you have failed,"
said Cadet Jordan Smith. Jordan Smith was recently awarded
the Corps Meritorious Service Medal for his exceptional service
and volunteerism during Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
Jordan spent countless hours housed at Reed Arena during
Texas A&M's shelter operations and it is an experience he will not soon forget.
In his acceptance speech, Jordan shared some thoughts with the audience."I would like to say that during the hurricane relief efforts last semester, I saw the Aggie spirit shine brighter than ever before. The response from the Corps of Cadets to the call for help was nothing short of amazing. Through the efforts at Reed Arena, we have touched the lives of many. These people would have been lost if it was not for the selfless dedication by students like yourself. They will never forget you. I am humbled to be a part of a University that holds service before self so dear to it heart."
Cadet Smith joined the Corps for leadership development.skills
that would prepare him to become an officer in the Air Force.
He also knew that by joining the Corps he would learn responsibility
and time management. Jordan is now upon graduation and has accepted
an Air Force contract. On top of all this and academics, Jordan has
managed to pay his way through college.
Four years later, looking back at his fish year, Jordan couldn't agree more that this has been the best four years of his life. Throughout his time in the Corps he has developed as a leader. "At the end of a freshmen's first year.when they come up and tell you that you personally helped them succeed that year.that's what it's all about.what leadership is all about.inspiring others to do the best they can," remarked Jordan.
