Mark in Uganda school Mark Musumba is from Mutundwe, Uganda. He is one of 8 children. He came to the United States on a visitor's visa to explore universities in 2001. After the September 11 attacks, Mark was unable to leave.or so it would be for quite some time.

Mark had researched and discussed the option of joining the Corps of Cadets prior to coming to the United States. After 9-11 and knowing he would not be leaving to go back home anytime soon, it became time sensitive for Mark to select a university and a program to begin his future.

Mark was introduced to a church family from the First Christian Church in Bryan who took him in and made him a part of their family. The church helped form a group that raised money and put Mark through his first semester at Blinn College. They would later help educate him on admittance at Texas A&M.and they were successful.

Mark with family and friends

Mark was admitted to Texas A&M in the Fall of 2002. He is currently a senior in the Corps of Cadets pursuing his Master's Degree in Agricultural Economics and plans to graduate in May of 2006 with future plans of pursuing his PhD.

Mark shared many thoughts of what the Corps experience has meant to him. This is what he had to say.. Mark with Graduate Studies

"The Corps means more than just being keepers of the spirit. The corps to me, is a close knit family of individuals where one chooses to rise up through adversity and be able to be successful. The Corps has taught me some of the biggest lessons in life. Made me strong mentally, physically and spiritually and also enabled me to make great friendships that I can count on to be there for me not matter the circumstances. The first summer after freshman year, when I had to stay off campus, was the time I realized what an impact the corps had on my life. I was better physically, mentally and emotionally. I noticed that I was better organized and ready to take on the challenges of modern day life."

Mark shares that the Corps provided him an environment to make great friends and helped him to get more involved. When asked what advice he would share with an incoming freshman, Mark said, "The Corps is challenging, but you learn from your mistakes and you keep a positive attitude." He also said that some of his best memories are from his "fish" year!
