Corps Triathlon Team Competes in First Event
By Cadet William Swoboda ’10
The Texas A&M Corps of Cadets Triathlon Team is among the newest of the Corps athletic teams. Founded in the Spring of 2009 by Cadet William Swoboda of Company C-2, team members include Tres Gotlich (Co. C-2), Sebastian Olave (Co. H-1), Brandt Rensmeyer (Co. C-2), Kyle Simon (Co. C-2), and team captain William Swoboda (Co. C-2). The Triathlon Team Advisor is Will Schrank, Assistant Commandant of Administration, Office of the Commandant.
The team is competing in three events during summer 2009—one sprint distance, one Olympic distance, and one Half-IronMan. The team completed the first event, the Metroplex Sprint Tri, on 13 June. Its top finisher, Brandt Rensmeyer, came in seventh place overall.
The team’s next event, an Olympic Triathlon, includes a 1500 meter swim, 28-mile bike ride and 6.2-mile run. The Half-IronMan consists of a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike ride, and 13.1-mile run.
The team is dedicated to promoting the Corps of Cadets through athletic competition. Its members are among the most physically fit and academically inclined student-athletes in the Corps. The team is off to a great start, and is very grateful for the generous support from the Corps of Cadets Association!
