Col. Jake Betty ‘73

Deputy Commandant and Chief of Staff

Col. Betty was born in Ft. Worth, Texas and grew up in Springtown, Tx. He graduated from Texas A&M University with a B.S. in Agricultural Economics and a Master of Science in Education Administration. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Infantry in 1973, entering active duty in 1973 and serving until 1977. Upon leaving active duty returned to Texas A&M and worked on the Commandants Staff as a Staff Assistant until 1978.

In 1978 moved to Lubbock, TX and worked in Residential Construction and the Real Estate business until 1988. Afterwards, he returned to Texas A&M and was hired as a Cadet Training Officer.  Col. Betty served as a Cadet Training Officer until August 2003 when he was named Assistant Commandant for Recruiting.  In August 2004 he was named Chief of Staff for the Office of the Commandant.

Col. Betty is married to Juli and has two children, Josh’02 who is currently assigned to the 10th Mountain Division and is serving in Iraq and Alison’06 who teaches in the Head Start Program.
